Very nice to hear this story from Mike! Did this solo happen before Mike laying down the Full Monn Fever song ‘I Won’t Back Down’ slide things? Very much like Georges solo on his and Tom’s ‘Cheer Down’. Obviously this is before ‘Into The Great Wide Open’ and ‘Learning To Fly’ slides. Also similar to what Mike did for Robin Zander’s ‘I’ve Always Got You’. All these slide things to me sounds really similar but reeeeeaaaaaally gooood! 🙂

This is what set these guys apart from every other band- they understood that the song is the foundation, and they were completely in service to each song they played. No ego. If someone else could play the solo that fitted the song best, there was no question that was who should play it. Mike is truly one of the best but most humble and self-effacing guitar players ever. He really can play anything beautifully, with deep emotion and spirituality.
